Breckenridge to Aspen Hike Hiking the Tour du Mont Blanc with a baby

Your humble Tour du Mont Blanc hiker is featured in Backpacker Magazine

Just wanted to let you know that none other than little old me has a (tiny) feature in the May issue of Backpacker Magazine, in an article on how to make time for your life-list hikes.  In my case it wasn’t really a question of making time (I had a four-month maternity leave; what else was I going to do:-)) but of getting back in shape quickly after the pregnancy and birth, and managing an infant on the trail.  If you’re interested in learning more about how we did it, you can check out the series of articles I wrote for the TMB guide book company here.

There was a minor editing error in the Backpacker article in that Carys was eight weeks (not months) old when we did the trip; I imagine the editors looked at the word “weeks” and decided there was no way it could possibly be right, so look for a correction in the June issue…

Jen! Some people would say they were going to use their 4 month maternity leave to recover from pregnancy and learn how to raise a child!! I think there are probably only a handful of people who decide to go on a 75 mile trek!! But, it seems like for you, trekking and learning to raise a child are good simultaneous activities!!

Well perhaps the argument could be made that I should have been at home learning about how to raise a child because I didn’t know much about parenting then and didn’t discover RIE until some months later. But I guess it all worked out in the end…:-)
